Program Information

Many of the challenges to health and well-being can be significantly alleviated with preventive health measures and prudent intervention programs designed to promote physical, psychological and societal health through appropriate lifestyle choices.

Sheridan’s new Bachelor of Applied Health Sciences – Exercise Science and Health Promotion Program (BAHSc (ESHP)) combines a strong understanding of exercise science and health promotion with the business leadership and practical experience necessary to develop, implement and manage wellness and health promotion programs and initiatives in both the public and private sector. Graduates will foster positive lifestyle changes for the enhancement of individual and community health.

The multidisciplinary approach of the new BAHSc (ESHP) Program borrows from the strengths of traditional Kinesiology and Health Science curriculums and enhances it with breadth coursework, business management and laboratory experiences. Field placements and a 14-week internship provide employment training, and professional certifications will be available through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology, and the Ontario Kinesiology Association.

The curriculum is designed with a view of health as a holistic outcome of an integrated system of health and disease management. Program emphasis is on keeping the population healthy to minimize the costs of illness and on addressing chronic conditions in an aging community and work force to: optimize the health, functionality, quality of life, and productivity of the population; and avoid the premature loss of productive contributors to society and the work place

“I have had the pleasure of working with Sheridan students for the past nine years through the Athletic Therapy Internship Program. Each year students exhibit qualities of professionalism, dedication, moral and ethical responsibility, and pride. The passion of the professors is the most unique thing about Sheridan. Due to their dedication, parents and students can be sure that they are being guided through the curriculum by people who care about them as individuals, not as numbers.”
