Sheridan’s Academic Upgrading Program gives you the skills you need to enter a college program or improve your job prospects. It is recognized by all colleges in Ontario and is tailored to meet your specific educational needs. It’s a great way to pick up some courses you need to enter a Sheridan program or obtain your Grade 12 equivalency certificate. In addition to classroom study, the program is also available through Distance Education at the ACE level. Register through Continuing Education to take advantage of this option.

The Academic Upgrading Program is:

  • Personalized to meet your educational needs
  • Self paced — move as slow or fast as you wish
  • Flexible — both full-time and part-time schedules are available
  • Continuous — begin any week (subject to available space)
  • Offered in partnership with Literacy North Halton in Georgetown

Through Academic Upgrading, you'll improve your skills in:

  • Reading and writing English
  • Mathematics
  • Chemistry
  • Biology
  • Physics
    (all the above equivalent to Grade 11/12 for college admission purposes)
  • Computer applications, email, Internet skills
  • Interpersonal relations and self-development
  • Employability skills academic/employment test preparation

When you complete the four senior-level courses in Communications, Core Math plus two other senior-level subjects, you'll receive an ACE certificate (Grade 12 equivalency).

Assistance Available

Financial assistance may be available for transportation and daycare expenses for those with low family incomes.

The Academic Upgrading Program is located at the Davis Campus in Brampton, Ontario and at the Skills Training Centre in Oakville, Ontario.




 

 

A primary reason students choose Sheridan Academic Upgrading - Academic and Career Entrance Program (ACE) - Grade 12 Equivalency Certificate is to enhance the job and career prospects.
  • Minimum 19 years of age (some exceptions may apply)
  • Minimum Canadian Language Benchmark 7 in Speaking and Listening if English is not first language.
  • Minimum LBS 4 level in Reading and Writing as determined by intake assessment.
  • Following an Info Session, students speak with a Student Adviser.

Students receive an assessment form to take to the Assessment Centre where they complete a reading, writing and/or math skills assessment to determine starting levels.

After results are assessed, students are called about start dates or about referrals to alternate programs.
