Sheridan Applied Research currently has several active research areas including four centres of excellence -
SERC,
VDI,

SIRT. In addition, research is conducted in advanced computing through the
SHARCNET Research Chair and energy sustainability. Further, industrial partnerships and student involvement have also been fostered through Proof of Principle (PoP) funding through the
Colleges Ontario Network for Industry Innovation (CONII).
Sheridan Elder Research Centres (SERC)
Located on the Oakville, Ontario campus of the Sheridan Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning, the
Sheridan Elder Research Centre benefits from Sheridan’s institutional strengths, the diversity of its programs and a research setting that offers a friendly and accessible environment whereby older adults from the community not only participate in research but also shape its direction. Sheridan Visual Design Institute (VDI)
The
Sheridan Visualization Design Institute is dedicated to innovation in the field of interactive digital media, and specializes in developing visualization technologies for education, training, and entertainment. Situated within Sheridan's renowned high-tech animation teaching environment, SCAET, the institute’s team of researchers and technologists has an eleven-year history of conducting diverse research programs in collaboration with industry and academic partners. VDI creates visionary products and experiences in collaboration with industry and academic partners.
