Sheridan enjoys a special reputation for leadership in applied research into new technologies. Our world-renowned programs and exceptional faculty firmly place Sheridan at the front lines of digital innovation - ready to anticipate the needs of business and industry in a complex digital world.  One of these emerging trends is exploring the applications of new technology in Realtime Production.  With this emergence in mind, Sheridan developed the Screen Industries Research & Training Centre.

Screen Industries Research & Training (SIRT) is an applied research/technology development/training/commercialization centre that helps link Sheridan College faculty, staff, and students and other Ontario academic and research institutions with Ontario’s screen-based industries. Our facility, located at Pinewood Toronto Studios in the film and television production hub of the port land areas of Toronto, houses an expansive 5,000 square foot research sound stage as well as a post-production lab, classroom and meeting facility. This real and virtual collaboration centre focuses on storytelling/content creation technologies and business models appropriate to multiplatform delivery (digital cinema, traditional television broadcast, games, internet, and mobile)

This interdisciplinary facility is integrated closely with Sheridan’s flagship programs in film and television, animation, and visual effects, although we also work with faculty and students throughout the college, in areas such as applied computing and business. Our activities Include applied research, knowledge dissemination/training and commercialization.  The Centre will become a site for delivery of educational offerings including program curriculum for Sheridan students and educational training modules for industry professionals.

High performance computing capability, a consultative approach to problem solving and service excellence - all combine to bring results to Sheridan's valued partners. conduct world-class research on digital imaging technologies from image capture to delivery and archiving.  Serving as an integrated training facility for pre-production, production and post-production personnel in the areas of animation, live action and visual effects, the Centre looks to a future where we can facilitate collaboration and development across industry sub-sectors; among both production and post-production personnel/companies, and content, service, and technology companies.
