Q: What is the KPI Student Satisfaction survey and why is it important not only to students, but the college community as a whole?
A: The KPI Student Satisfaction Survey is a method of measuring how well Ontario colleges meet the needs of students and the marketplace. Mandated by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, this provincial survey gives students of all 24 community colleges in Ontario an opportunity to give meaningful feedback to their college and the ministry, which will help contribute to the development of strategies to improve college programs and resources, improve the quality of college life and provide greater assurances that graduates will be “work ready”.
Q: What is a KPI?
A: KPI stands for Key Performance Indicator. The Student Satisfaction survey is one of the five KPI measurements used by the ministry to measure college performance, through student evaluation. The five KPIs are Graduate Satisfaction, Graduate Employment, Employer Satisfaction, Student Satisfaction and Graduation Rate. Six months after you graduate, you will again be provided with an opportunity to give feedback when you are surveyed by an independent consultant using the Graduate Employment and Graduate Satisfaction survey.
Q: Who is eligible to participate in the survey?
A: All students who are enrolled in full-time post-secondary/post-diploma programs, and are in their second semester of study and beyond, will have the opportunity to participate in the survey.
Q: When will the survey be conducted?
A: The Student Satisfaction Survey is completed in three phases during the academic year. The three phases include two advanced surveys, administered in Summer and Fall semesters for graduating students and for coop and field/clinical placement students who are unavailable to be surveyed in February; and the regular survey administered in Winter semester for all remaining college students enrolled in their second semester and above.
Q: Will I be asked to rate the class in which I’m taking the survey?
A: No, the purpose of the survey is to evaluate the overall program in which you’re enrolled, as well as the overall college. Generally speaking, the survey asks students how satisfied they are with their program of study, with the many services that are available on campus, and with the overall learning environment provided by the college.
Q: Will my comments be publicly shared?
A: No, the survey is completely confidential in every respect. Neither the student nor the teacher is identified on the survey. Only the cumulative results of all surveys collected are made available.
