A Message from the President:
It is with sincere gratitude that I write my final message honouring Sheridan's outstanding supporters. As I retire from Sheridan this winter, I reflect fondly on my eight-year tenure, and am thankful to have capped off my 33-year career in the Canadian college system at what I believe to be one of the country's premier postsecondary institutions.
Since I became President in 2001, Sheridan has undergone significant changes while taking major steps forward. We became degree-granting, and changed our status to that of an Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning. Our enrolment has grown by 42% over the past eight years, and we have invested $150 million in new facilities at our campuses to accommodate this growth. We have also increased the number of full-time faculty with over 125 new positions.
Launched in 2006, the Student Capital Campaign achieved unprecedented success by surpassing its $30 million goal. I offer my thanks and congratulations to our Campaign Co-Chairs, Peter Gilgan and The Honourable William G. Davis, to our Campaign Cabinet, Board of Governors, and our donors, for helping Sheridan build bright futures for our students. With your generous support, Sheridan has completed its most successful fundraising campaign to date, Student Capital.
The legacy continues with the announcement from the federal and provincial governments that Sheridan will receive $31.23 million in funding to support the creation of a new Mississauga Campus. This is an initiative which we have been working towards for several years, and it is wonderful to see those efforts pay off.
I will continue to watch Sheridan's progress with great interest and extend my best wishes to you. Thank you once again for your support.
