Insurance for Students on Work Placements
Students who are required to complete an unpaid work placement as a program requirement receive insurance coverage while on placement through the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) or ACE INA Insurance, if their employer does not participate in WSIB. These insurances are provided through the Ministry of Training, Colleges & Universities.
ACE INA Insurance Reporting
In April 1994 both private and Workplace Safety Insurance Board (WSIB) insurance coverage for students on unpaid work placement was established and legislated by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities. All students placed with employers outside the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act have insurance available through Ace Ina Insurance. Each college throughout Ontario must accurately document the work experience eligible for coverage by this policy.
Colleges are required to report ACE INA statistics three times a year, based on semesters. Each program coordinator is responsible for completing their report and submitting it to the Charge Nurse, Health Services, Trafalgar Campus by the due date listed on the reporting sheet. These reports are compiled into a single report that contains all Sheridan statistics.
