Counselling Services offer consultations to faculty and staff. Consultations generally focus on concern for an individual or other issues impacting functioning in the classrooms or other issues that may have psycho-educational implications. The goal of counselling consultations and support is to ensure that faculty and staff are aware of how Counselling Services can be utilized to assist with the aim of enhancing student success.
Counselling staff is available to faculty and staff to consult on a variety of subjects from issues with students, interpersonal or organizational concerns, etc. Counsellors will attempt to respond to requests for consultation in a timely manner (daily) as schedules permit.
Counsellor consultations:
- create avenues to build capacities and develop networks across Sheridan that foster connections/connectedness, communication and support for all faculty and staff that may then translate into increased student retention
- provide information on situations that may impact the student population and input on how to deal with issues that may impact functioning in the classroom and academic performance
- consultations will be aimed at increasing awareness and developing intervention strategies
- enhance overall functioning and well being of students by assisting faculty and staff to be responsive to their needs. This may be accomplished through a systemic approach that utilizes group practice. As well, we will aim to maintain a collaborative relationship as a way of strengthening effectiveness of service delivery to students as we aim to ensure quality services to the college community
