THE SHERIDAN RESEARCH MANDATE

“Sheridan Research will be an integral component of Sheridan’s drive to become the premier polytechnic through innovative research and collaborative partnering that will be linked intrinsically to our academic programs, building expertise and focusing on creative problem solving.”

Sheridan Research was created to initiate, develop and define applied research opportunities and partnership within the communities that Sheridan serves, and from within the Academic schools which Sheridan supports.  Sheridan Research is committed to fostering an applied research environment that supports innovative research activities that;
  • Enhances the student programs and learning environment;
  • Advances curriculum development and learning models;
  • Fosters faculty and student development and learning;
  • Promotes problem solving for industrial development and commercial success of our partners;
  • Develops commercialization strategies for technologies and products;
  • Provides service to our partner and client groups; and,
  • Contributes to the economic development and social well being in the regions surrounding our campuses, and in Ontario.
We accomplish this by:
  • Focusing on areas in which we are eminently qualified;
  • Finding creative methods to engage faculty in research without compromising their full-time commitments to teaching;
  • Designing a business model that will see us self-sufficient in four years;
  • Developing innovative partnerships and alliances with business and industry;
  • Identifying new areas of expertise to grow the research portfolio;
  • Building stronger relationships with funding agencies to support both infrastructure and operations; and,
  • Creating marketing communications and business development programs that will drive awareness and revenue.
Sheridan Research abides by established Research Policies and continually operates a Research Ethics Board which reviews all project proposals to ensure all best practices are maintained and ensuring no ethics are violated within any of the many initiatives underway within Sheridan Research.
