Bruins Hockey History

 In Sheridan College's first year, 1967-68, an informal hockey team was formed from a group of interested students. They played in only a handful of exhibition games that first season as organized by the fledgling student government of the time. Uniforms had to be hastily acquired and immediate delivery was the primary concern along with a frugal budget. Since the Maple Leaf jerseys were always available, this was the initial choice that established the "blue and white" tradition at Sheridan.

In 1968-69, Sheridan officially joined the newly created Ontario Colleges Athletic Association and began play with 20 other freshly minted hockey programs. There were 4 divisions throughout the province and carrying their newly selected name, the " Bruins" excelled as they won the Central Division and participated in the first ever Provincial Championship tournament.

The hockey Bruins carried the banner for the Athletics Department for 25 consecutive years establishing themselves consistantly as one of the top hockey programs in the O. C. A. A. The standard of excellence that began in the 60's continues to be reflected in the successes of all the varsity teams to this day.

Although Sheridan varsity hockey was discontinued in 1992, the comraderie , spirit and pride remains instilled in the players, coaches and managers who were involved.
