In just one year of study, Sheridan’s Human Resources Management graduate certificate program gives you the practical skills you need to contribute as an HR leader in a company, non-profit organization or government agency. The role of the HR manager has grown steadily in importance. Today’s HR Management professional contributes on the strategic level dealing with:

  • Labour relations

Our HR Management college classes rely on hands-on learning techniques to ensure you possess the skills required in actual job situations. From developing an interview guide to seeking out applicants to fill a specific job and hiring an applicant through a video taped interview process, the activities you undertake in class prepare you well.

Additional Certification

The program includes nine courses required by the Human Resources Professionals Association (HRPA) as a step toward certification as a  Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP).  Students achieving an average of 70% on the nine courses with no mark under 65% meet the coursework requirement to write the National Knowledge Exam (NKE).  In order to be granted the CHRP in Ontario individuals must take the nine courses, pass the NKE and document three years experience in HR; to qualify to write the NKE applicants must have a degree.

Co-op Experience

You'll take part in one term (three to four months) of co-op placement, which is typically a paid assignment. This opportunity for real-world experience in an HR environment can be an invaluable asset to your career.

Awards/Scholarships/Bursaries

As a participant in our HR Management Ontario Graduate Certificate program, you may qualify for Scholarships of $1,000 to $1,500 offered by HRPA (Peel and Halton chapters).

The Human Resources Management Program is located at the Hazel McCallion Campus in Mississauga, Ontario and the Davis Campus in Brampton, Ontario.

PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY

  • Postsecondary diploma or degree

and/or

  • Demonstrated competence through related work and/or educational experience

APPLICANT SELECTION

Eligible applicants are selected on the basis of previous academic achievement, and/or demonstrated experience.

Eligible applicants will be requested to submit a résumé and cover letter, and a brief paper describing two accomplishments that illustrate the applicant’s suitability for a career in human resources. Strong written and oral communication skills are required.

Postsecondary transcripts, indicating courses completed to date, must be submitted to ontariocolleges.ca at the time of application.

Applicants who do not meet the admission requirements for this program will be assessed and advised individually and may be considered for other, related programs.
