A rare program in Ontario, Sheridan’s Cosmetic Techniques and Management diploma program equips you with both technical training and the management, sales and interpersonal skills you need for a career in the cosmetics and beauty-related industries. The program includes two 40-hour field placement assignments based on your specific career interests.
Highly respected professors who remain active in the industry teach you the skills of an advanced make-up artist:
- How to apply make-up for black and white/colour photography
- Colour theory and application
- Marketing, advertising, business entrepreneurship and sales skills
You learn through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on practical assignments. Classes include:
- Applying make-up to live models
- Drawing and rendering theatrical make-up
- Applying special effects make-up from a kit
- Presentations by guest speakers from the industry
- Applying make-up at charity fashion shows, high schools, women’s shelters and senior centres
- Field trips to businesses employing professional cosmetics technicians
- Two professional photo shoots of your work
Two Practicums Give Workplace Experience
You will undertake a 40-hour practicum during each year of your two-year make-up artist program. These practicums are driven by your areas of interest and can range from working in a photographer’s studio or in live theatre to helping with make-up application for television.
