The recipients of the 2008 Canon Photography Awards were announced at the recent Applied Photography program awards held at the Colourgenics Inc. gallery.

The recipients are:
First Year: Shereen Mroueh and Michelle Repasky

Portfolio Project Award: Claire Foster

The First and Second year winners each receive $2,000, while the Portfolio Project Award winner was presented with a Canon camera up to $3,000 in value.

"On behalf of our students, I would like to thank Canon Canada for its generous support of the next generation of photography professionals," said Dr. Michael Collins, Dean of the School of Animation, Arts & Design. "This awards program is and will continue to be an additional incentive to our students to pursue excellence in their studies."

Canon Canada has been a preferred vendor to Sheridan over the past several years, as the college's Applied Photography program has moved to an exclusively digital format - one of the first commercial photography programs in Canada to make this transition. "Canon is a world leader in digital photography, and this partnership has evolved through our commitment to providing students with exceptional applied learning opportunities and the tools that make it possible," said Collins.

On behalf of Canon Canada, Sheridan alumnus Neil Stephenson emphasized the close relationship between Sheridan and Canon Canada and underlined the need to recognize the excellent work Applied Photography students produce.
