Cambrian College President Sylvia Barnard and Sheridan College President Dr. Robert Turner today signed an agreement that will see Sheridan’s internationally-renowned Animation program introduced to the North.

Through this agreement, Cambrian will use and deliver Sheridan College’s curriculum for the Advanced Diploma program in Animation, providing students with the opportunity to access an established program that is recognized for its creative excellence. The focus of the program will be on traditional animation, drawing, storytelling, and 2D and 3D digital animation.

The three-year Animation Advanced Diploma program responds to employment demands for skilled animators and it fosters and expands the educational and career opportunities for Northern Ontario youth interested in media and design. As well, the program expands the complement of media and design programs that Cambrian College offers and positions Cambrian as the Northern Ontario centre for media and design education.

In addition to providing Cambrian with its Animation curriculum and extended course outlines, Sheridan will assist in the development and implementation of an ongoing quality assurance process.

“We are excited to be bringing Sheridan’s renowned animation expertise to the North,” said Cambrian College President Sylvia Barnard. “The demand for animation specialists is growing across sectors ranging from entertainment and the arts to industry and healthcare. To be able to respond by delivering a proven product will position us nicely to move into this field very quickly and to add to the social and economic growth of our community and the North.

“College graduates are integral to a safe, healthy, and economically-vibrant community,” continued Barnard. “I am particularly pleased that we are partnering with a sister college – experts in the animation – to build another strong foundation of college specialists who will help move Ontario forward.”

“Sheridan is proud to attract students from all over the world to study in our animation programs, which have earned international renown for quality and excellence over the course of our forty-year history,” said Sheridan President Dr. Robert Turner. “By entering into this historic agreement with Cambrian College, we hope to open the door for more students in the north to pursue their career aspirations in the animation field.”

The agreement that was signed today is the first agreement between Sheridan College and Cambrian College, and one of many that Cambrian has signed to provide seamless education and to enhance the educational experience for Cambrian students.
