Sports Injury Management

Graduation Year: 1985

Chris Broadhurst just entered his third season as the Head Athletic Therapist for the Phoenix Coyotes of the National Hockey League. Prior to that, he was the Head Athletic Therapist with the Toronto Maple Leafs for 16 seasons (1989 to 2005). He received his start in athletic therapy with the Toronto Blue Jays’ Class A minor league affiliate in St. Catharines, Ontario in 1986.

Chris has extensive clinical experience having worked with athletes of all levels in two Toronto sports medicine clinics, including the Centre for Sport & Recreation Medicine where he is Director. A certified member of the Canadian Athletic Therapist Association, he is continually upgrading his skills with post-graduate work to become a leader in the field.

Widely respected in Canada and internationally, Chris was Athletic Therapist at the 1998 and 2002 NHL All-Star Games, and the Canadian Men’s Hockey Team at the 1998 Winter Olympic Games in Nagano, Japan. He was proud to represent his country as Athletic Therapist at the 1997 and 2006 World Hockey Championships, both of which resulted in gold medals for Canada. He was also an Athletic Therapist for the Canadian squad that won the 1991 Canada Cup.

Chris’ stellar reputation and high profile positions have helped to enhance the reputation of Sheridan’s Sports Injury Management program. One of only six in Canada, the program has set the benchmark for excellence, becoming the first accredited athletic therapy program in the country. In 2006, the Sports Injury Management program evolved into a 4-year degree program - The Bachelor of Applied Health Sciences (Athletic Therapy).
