Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario’s (FedDev Ontario) Applied Research and Commercialization (ARC) Initiative at Sheridan
Sheridan College has received $750,000 from the federal government to conduct research and development, new-technology assessments and product testing jointly with small- and medium-sized businesses.
The Office of Applied Research and Innovation is responsible for the completion of 15 industry driven projects to support applied research in the areas of mobile applications, sustainable development, animation, and manufacturing by March 31, 2012.
The funding is derived from t he Federal Economic Development (FedDev) Ontario’s $15 million Applied Research and Commercialization (ARC) Initiative , a pilot pro gram aimed at addressing the gap between research and commercialization in southern Ontario, and encouraging collaboration between small- and medium-sized enterprises and post-secondary institutions such as Sheridan . The initiative is part of Canada's Economic Action Plan .
It is the goal of Sheridan College and the ARC initiative to bring together companies, faculty and students to conduct applied research, development and innovation activities that will help companies become more productive, competitive and successful with the ultimate goal of hiring more skilled workers.
